"My husband and I had desired to have a second child for almost four years. After much prayer we did not feel God was directing our paths towards medical intervention. However, preliminary tests had revealed no reason for the secondary infertility. This was an incredibly challenging journey for me as to be a mother was something I not only enjoyed, but had waited a long time for. My dream of a large family had come to a sudden halt after our son was born. Over the last four years I sought God to help me overcome the shame and guilt I felt and also the overwhelming feelings of failure that had accompanied the infertility. I knew what God said about barrenness and about receiving miracles. I held on to these praying that God would fulfill His promises to me. I finally came to the point where I replaced this “idol” of fertility with our loving Saviour. Once again my life could be lived for God, and not for another child.
On 16 May 2004, Weston came to a Sunday meeting at the Tauranga Worship Centre. At other meetings that I had been to that he had held, I prayed fervently that I would be called to receive healing, but had left disappointed and despondent that it wasn’t the right timing. On the night of 16 May, I felt God impressing upon me to go along to see testimonies of His hand at work in others lives. So, I was shocked when he called us out and was so specific—even to the area we were sitting in. I sat for a moment in fear of admitting my struggle to our church, but with encouragement from my pastor’s wife that this was for me, I took a step of faith.
By 10 June, we were pregnant—four years exactly to the day my son had been due. I’m currently in my ninth week of pregnancy and feel fantastic. I couldn’t wait to share the “great things the Lord has done” for us. We pray that our testimony will serve others and give them hope where there is none. We are thankful for Weston’s faithful work, and I can say with Hannah:
I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him (1 Sam. 1:27).
Follow-up
My pregnancy was not easy and led to a c-section, but God’s hand never left us and His intervention was evident throughout. On 1 March 2005, we came to the end of our journey: a healthy 9lb 13oz baby boy—Flynn Caleb Tanner."
